Red Star line of luxury liner

The SS Lapland was built in 1908 by Harland & Wolff (Belfast, Ireland). The ship weighed over 18 tonnes and was approximately 185 metres in length. A luxury liner that ran between Europe and New York, the SS Lapland was a sister ship to the Titanic; after the Titanic sank, the SS Lapland returned many of the ship’s crew to England. With a capacity of 1500 passengers, the ship was perfectly suited for troop transportation. On October 3, 1914, the ship carried the First Contingent of Canadian troops to Europe, and continued to transport troops for the duration of the war. It was scrapped in 1933.
