This etched print depicting the surrender of the German naval fleet in WWI has suffered extensive water damage and has lost much of its detail. The original depicted the British and German fleets sailing in formation under a sky filled with barrage balloons and biplanes. The ship’s flags appear to be hand painted. The work was commissioned by the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire and stamped with their official I.O.D.E. seal. The seal on the painting is signed by Sir David Beatty, the Admiral who received the German surrender in 1918.
