Canadian Soldiers

The caption for this August 12, 1944, Star Weekly (Toronto) photograph reads: “A blazing Tommy Gun in the hands of a Canadian solider cleans out the last remnants of a German sniper nest in the wreckage of one of Caen’s buildings. He is supported by two more Canadians with rifles ready to blast at any sign of life from the foe. Considerable time was required to oust the last of them. The enemy left many mines in the rubble, but detectors rendered them useless, making the way safe.”
