Wrong! The prayer book may have helped Denis Jones, but it wasn’t what the Algonquin Regiment needed—try again!
This prayer book was one of many distributed to soldiers during WWII by the Knights of Columbus – Canadian Army Huts. It belonged to Denis Jones (Jim Jones’ brother) who was with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment. As part of the D-Day invasion, Jones was shot by one of the German snipers who stayed behind to harass the advancing Allied troops. The bullet hit the prayer book in his breast pocket and ricocheted into his arm, saving his life.
