The Falcon was the first operational air-to-air missile used by the United States Air Force. The development of the missile began in 1946 and it entered service in 1956. The Falcon was used during the Vietnam War to combat slow bomber planes, the missile only detonating if a direct hit was achieved. The Falcon was later replaced by the Sidewinder model.
